Drinking water infrastructure provides clean, potable water to countless people around the globe. In the United States (including territories) alone, there are over 145,000 active public water systems and nearly 2.2 million miles of underground pipes delivering safe, reliable water to millions of people. Continued maintenance and upgrades to this infrastructure are critical to the communities and asset owners they serve. 

The construction industry faces many safety challenges as the work environment is always changing in response to the specific job at hand. One of the most challenging environments is working within confined spaces. There are numerous safety regulations in place meant to keep construction workers safe.

Clean drinking water is often taken for granted. Drinking water standards are more stringent today to ensure that water is safe to drink. In 1988, NSF/ANSI 61 Drinking Water Systems Components – Health Effects standard was published. There are several laboratories certified by ANSI to test to this standard, including Underwriters Laboratories, the National Sanitation Foundation, and the Water Quality Association.
